Alcohol training seminar to be held at Ernie Biggs
October 12, 2008
The Community Partnership and the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control will be conducting a free alcohol retailer and server training seminar on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 3:30 p.m. at Ernie Biggs’ Dueling Piano Bar on Branson Landing. The training is for all licensed package and liquor by the alcohol retailers in Branson and Taney County.
The purpose of the training is to educate owners and their employees about preventing the sale of alcohol products to minors, and the stiff penalties if found guilty.
This training is also required by the proposed new city of Branson Liquor Ordinance that will be up for final reading and approval the evening of Oct. 14 at the regular Board of Aldermen meeting. The new ordinance states that any employee involved in the retail sale of liquor must participate in an alcohol education program approved by the city liquor control specialist within the first three months of employment. In addition, the business owners must keep a record of the employee’s participation in these programs.
While this class would qualify, there will be other liquor education programs in the future that owners and employees can attend that also will qualify under the proposed ordinance.
The alcohol server training Tuesday will cover topics such as state alcohol laws, checking ID’s, detecting fake ID’s, identifying minors, compliance checks, and more.
The owners of businesses found guilty of selling to minors may face up to a $1,000 state fine per sale or license revocation plus additional civil and/or criminal charges.
Employees who sell liquor to minors face a $1,000 state fine and/or one year in jail and additional civil or criminal charges.
To register employees for the training, contact Craig Clark, general manager of Ernie Biggs at 417-239-3671 or email at craig@erniebiggs.com. Ernie Biggs’ Dueling Piano Bar is located on the north end of Branson Landing next to Belk’s Department Store.
The community partnership, based in Springfield, is a non-profit association that provides education on various community health and safety issues like child care, domestic violence, drugs and alcohol. Its alcohol server training has been approved by the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control.
