Chili cook-off set in Reeds Spring

Southern Stone County Fire Volunteer’s will again face off in a chili cook off at the Reeds Spring High School on Oct. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be chili prepared by firefighters from various stations and special teams.
The Fire Chief himself will enter the competition with a three alarm chili. Special judges will be on hand such as Dave Duncan the pitching coach for the St. Louis Cardinals, Dennis Wood our State Representative, Mark Newsom with Newsome Creative in Branson West, Vicki May our Stone County Collector, and Judy Berkstresser our Stone County Clerk to award first, second, and third place trophies along with the most unique award, and the people’s choice award.
Admission is $5.00 for adults and children 12 and under is $2.00. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a cake walk and a karaoke contest with cash prizes will be awarded in three different categories (top female, top male and top 14 and under). Karaoke prizes will be awarded at 6:15. There will be a silent auction which includes a handmade rocking horse, party pack, and an antique quilt, along with games, vendor booths, and a drawing for prizes including a Kenmore grill donated by Sears in Branson West, a Branson getaway package, and a hand carved wooden bear donated by S&S Chainsaw Art.
So come out and support your local volunteer firefighters. All of the proceeds from this event will benefit the SSCFPD Auxiliary. The auxiliary is a vital component of the fire department.
These dedicated volunteers respond to fire scenes and emergency incidents where firefighters are on scene for an extended period of time.
The Auxiliary makes sure the firefighters are taken care of by bringing water, Gatorade, coffee, and snacks. Volunteers are a vital part of the fire service and the community that they support, so come out and support this great cause.
